Sunday 4 March 2012: Studenica Monastery
We travelled back from Novi Pazar to Belgrade, stopping at two 13th century monasteries and a tenth century church. So a blip of Serb iconography was pretty much demanded. But the choice was tough.
These are just some of the remarkable thirteenth century murals in the main church at Studenica Monastery. They are absolutely stunning. Photography is in principle prohibited but the monk who gave us a guided tour said it was fine. I felt as if we travelled to the root of the medieval Serb kingdom of the Nemanjic dynasty today.
