Cast Iron Gardening #7 : Gate Post

Mrs. Dutchoak acquired a gate some 8 years ago. The previous owners dumped this beautiful forged gate with forged French Lilies in a corner to let it rust to bits.
Mrs. Dutchoak singlehandedly retrieved the two gate doors and hauled them all the way back to the garden. Dutchoak himself was tasked with
1) finding a use for it;
2) resuscicate a lump of rust;
3) finding a way to mount the whole thing again

Dutchoak found a few cast-iron gate-posts from unknown origin somewhere on the internet. Good but distant friends Erika&Gertjan brought them in their campervan on one of their rare visits. Good friend Roelof, who works at the water company, brought some left-over piping for the foundation. Dutchoak devised a way to mount the whole thing. Brother-in-law Cees lent his column drill to get the various metal bits machined.

Then, in 2010, the whole thing was assembled and every piece got its true function. The whole project took 5 years...

In its full glory here!
