Nurse Tree

We dropped Ian off at the Bellingham airport just about an hour ago. He's on his way with the students to the Vancouver BC airport and their morning flight home. It is going to be a long trip for them all. We had such a great time with Ian and we will miss him.

The day began with Ian finishing the program with his students during the morning. I spent that time preparing for dinner tonight. We invited Steve and Kai and our friends Rick and Judy from Anacortes. Dave and Nora are in Vegas celebrating Bailey's first birthday today. We called to wish her a happy birthday.

When Ian got home he and I took a long last walk in Whatcom Falls Park where I took this picture. I love the way young trees spring out of the old stumps that are left when a large tree dies. Check this out in large size.

We saw osprey sitting in trees near their big nest. They were too high to get big pictures. Ian also saw a couple of dippers near the falls. Mostly we walked all over to areas I hadn't been before. It was about five miles by the time we got home. I had a little time for photos before I started cooking dinner.

Steve, Kai, Judy and Rick all arrived around five thirty and we all had a great evening together. I made baked rockfish and shrimp with a coconut ginger sauce. It was an experiment that went right. We also had some crab cakes, veggies and salad and a couscous quinoa dish. The dinner went over well. Judy brought a yummy custard and fresh fruit tart for desert. Mmmm.

The party broke up a bit after nine when it was time to take Ian to the airport. We had a great day and a wonderful three weeks with Ian. Hope he has a safe and not too demanding trip home.
