Monday 23 April 2012: Shady
In the aftermath of yesterday's first round of the French presidential election, the result wasn't much of a surprise except that it is the first time in 50 years that the outgoing president hasn't come top of the poll in the first round, and except for the shockingly high vote across most of the country for the Front National. As an immigrant to our village, I am now wondering who are the 130 people here (out of an electorate of 644) who voted for the extreme right. I know who a few of them are. For me it makes it worse that people think I'm an acceptable immigrant whereas others may not be...not sure where my thoughts are leading on this one, except that some people's political choices disgust me.
