Meditating

Years ago the prevailing view was that humans were the only creatures who thought. Pet owners of course knew that this view was flawed. They had daily evidence that their animals indeed did think. And today studies are showing this is true.

Humans are encouraged to meditate, to allow their thoughts to drift away and just be in an open state. Knowing Duma, our dilute marmalade cat, I am also quite sure that some cats meditate too. Duma certainly must. He is the most in the moment cat we've ever had, and the most content. Rarely does he get upset. He is fine with being held in awkward positions while one of the house apes gives him lots of love and attention. He is a very mellow fellow.

Here he is in one of his favorite places, doing one of his favorite things, blissing out in the large dining room window. Here he watches birds. But he also does this, sits very still, in a meditative state, being in this moment of life. We could all learn some great lessons from him.
