Calling His Shot

In game 3 of the 1932 World Series, with the score tied 5-5 in the 5th inning, the Chicago Cubs bench was "heckling" Babe Ruth.

The Babe took strike one, stepped out of the batters box, and pointed to the center field bleachers. He then stepped back into the box, and took strike two. He pointed to the bleachers again, and on the very next pitch...hit the baseball 440 feet into the center field seats for a home run.

How would my grandson Merrick know anything about that ancient baseball history? I...just...don't...know, but after calling his shot, the boy walloped one out there.

I'd like to say that Merrick was a little baseball angel for the whole T-ball practice, but he had his moments when his Dad (the assistant coach) had to have "words" with him. I think it will be better after next week, when practice ends, and the games begin. It's hard to keep 4-5 year old boys on task.
