The girls

For years I've tried to deal with a section of my yard that, many years ago, was a potato patch.  This year I've given up and fenced it off, and today I brought The Girls to live with me.

Meet Pansy, Poppy, Polly and Petunia.  At this stage the names are interchangeable and may well change as they exhibit different personality traits.

They are Araucana's, slightly smaller than your average chook, but bigger than a bantam.  Araucana chooks usually lay bluey-greenish eggs that are a size between the hens and the bantams.  Although the two eggs I have got today are more of a very pale greyish green.  That may possibly change dependent on what they eat.  I guess I'll find out as time goes on.
