Ballet of the Spoonbills

I arrived and found my seat upon a sand dune of long grasses on this calm winters day. There was excitement all around as it was to be the first performance of The Ballet of the Spoonbills.

Mr and Mrs Mallard were there along with the Grey Teal ducks. The Spotted Shags had arrived from down south and were sitting beside their hosts the Pied Shags. Terns and gulls circled above swooping and diving before taking their seats just in front of the stage, all became quiet.

The sound of the waves lapped the beach, the gentle rustle of the grasses and the whistle of the pine trees became the opening notes as the spoonbills gracefully danced under the spotlight of the sun. Standing on one leg and then on two they twirled to the music, the light shining on their fine ruffled feathers as they swayed their long beaks in unison.

It was a spectacular open air performance, filled with elegance and grace accompanied by the best natural music there can be.

Happy weekend blippers :)

Many thanks for your comments, stars and favs for yesterdays dramatic sky, it made the spotlight page - thank you :))
