FROM THE MONTH OF JUNE

a poem by Nathaniel Parker Willis (1806-1894") :

It is the month of June
The month of leaves and roses,
When pleasant sights salute the eyes
And pleasant scents the roses

I took it from the Poens of the seasons, Pictures by Gordon Beningfield.
My picture shows one of my delicately smelling roses.
I took the pruning-shears this morning to clear the path from overgrown vegetation.

My haiku:

Walk slowly along
The scented roses I watch
Their petals fall down

And the proverb by Whittier:

For of all sad words of tongue or pen,
The saddest are these: 'It might have been!'
