THEY WERE DIFFERENT

these two gulls! They kept to themselves standing between the others.
I liked them, but I did not like the cold and the awful heaps of foam, covering big parts of the beach. It was constantly vibrating, not a pleasant sight at all.
For lunch we had invited a friend, Piet Hein and she had been friends from the time they were very young. Through the years there had been contact, sometimes more, sometimes less frequently.
She is since long a widow, has three children and six grandchildren. All living in The Hague. We had a pleasant time together.
In the late afternoon Piet Hein and I cycled to the beach. Full of kite surfers, of course, because of the exiting wind. We did not stay for a long time, glad to be home again, warm with hot tea.

My haiku:

Two of a kind as
One says discovering so
Many resemblances

And the quote by William Saroyan in New York Journal-American Aug 23, 1961:

Good people are good because  they've come to wisdom through failure.
