Solwezi, Zambia

R flew to Solwezi today in the North West Province of Zambia, about 250km from where we stay now. The road between us and there is horrifying, much easier, faster and safer to fly!

The company he works for has very big new developments there. They built a new Golf Estate there, where the Management and expats are accommodated.
In this shot you can see the gate to a senior manager?s house. The houses are fully furnished, high standard furniture and equipment, and fully serviced, the house girl as well as the gardener supplied by the company, full Internet connection, tennis courts, squash courts, fully equipped gym, swimming pool and of course, the golf course that is surrounded by the houses, and to which only residents have access.

Unfortunately there is no official ?Town? for shopping, you stay in the ?bundu? remember! Groceries is bought via Internet and flown in from South Africa, meat brought by road from Ndola once a month, etc.

I will publish shots of the other side of life there at a later stage, this is real third world or real Africa, if you want to know!

You must not forget that the people enjoying that "luxury" there, are, just like you, used to those luxuries, in fact, much better than what they have there, because there are nothing outside those gates! No theatres, schools, shopping centres, cinemas, churches, NOTHING!

But, if they don't go there to develop the country FÓR those poorest of the poor, their future will just simply stay bleak, no opportunities come by itself, it is the first world people who bring the prosperity to them.

Job opportunities come with development, and each household in this estate supply jobs for a few households outside that gate! In fact, most of the expats are involved in some way or the other, in welfare work there, and "adopt" a few kids or families to get themselves educated and employed, and support them financially in some way!

The expats here are mostly very kind hearted people!
