Az Trip Day 10: Lower Antelope Canyon

Arizona Trip Backblips:

Whereas Upper Antelope Canyon (see Day 6) is famed for its light beams Lower Antelope Canyon is famed for its colors.

Lower Antelope has a wider top than Lower Antelope so more light gets in. This can prove a challenge to exposures as the range of brightness across your frame can be large and it can be difficult to compose with hotspots where direct light hits the canyon wall in a portion of your shot and its brighness overwhelms the rest of your image.

As the light is reflected of the canyon walls the rock appears to change color. Different times of the day and different weather outside can change the color considerably.

These canyons are great places to be, especially if you can escape the crowds! I loved being there and would like to return as often as possible, just a pity its 3000 miles away :-)

This shot was taken around 3pm and I used a polarizer to try and reduce some of the reflected light on the sandstone walls.
