walled garden

This is all that remains of what was probably a beautiful walled garden in High Gosforth Park, home of the racecourse.

The new owners have seen fit to fence off large chunks of the Park that was once open to the public, where there was access there is now barbed wire and officiuos looking signage.

I used to run a lot through here but I haven't run since December last year, what I noticed when walking was that I had missed lots of clues to how the park must have looked during it's hey day. There's a high level walkway which at some time must have had huge cast iron pillars, there are now missing, presumably taken during the World Wars.

The walled garden contains mostly Japanese Knot weed, ironically it's adjacent to a garden centre !

Off to work this afternoon to see what new challenges lie ahead.
