Joys of Life

This afternoon, during a break in the rain, Kiwilizzie texted to suggest a walk around the block. Great idea I thought, wear Sebastian out so he'll sleep well tonight. So we set off. He on his bike and Liz and I walking.

Now remember that he did the whole 4 km yesterday with barely a stop. Today he didn't even get half way when it had become too much for him. The rest of the way was a much slower combination of riding, walking and being hugged (which involved carrying him for long distances). Still, he burned off plenty of energy.

It did involve a stop at the dairy for an icecream to eat on the swings. While we were there the light spitting turned into a deluge and so the adults in our wee party decided it was time to leave. Sebastian didn't think so! He wanted to stay and play on the slide and swings whilst eating his icecream in the pouring rain. This adult won the argument but not without having to carry him away screaming.

Fortunately he tends to be easily distracted and within two minutes he was perfectly happy again. He truly is such a delight.

We dropped Liz off at her place and continued on home, arriving saturated and exhausted. Of course the sun came back out within 10 minutes of walking in the door.

Really it was a lovely fun outing that has tired Sebastian out nicely. Within minutes of walking in the door we also had a lovely visit from my sister, her husband and their granddaughter - they're on their way to Christchurch to return her to her Mum.

On one part of the walk we had to stop to talk to the sheep and horses (and cows, and diggers, and creek, and cattle yards, and...). These lambs were taking turns at playing "I'm the King of the Castle" but due to the lack of a rock or castle they were using their Mum. Leaping onto her back and then leaping off again. It was delightful to watch.
