Fountains Abbey

Today's the day .............................. to be spoilt for choice

You know you have those blipping days when you're spoilt for choice? - well today was one of those days.

To start with the weather was glorious - a crisp autumn day with the right amount of interesting light. The colours of the trees in the sunshine just took your breath away. And to cap it all, we went to Fountains Abbey - a World Heritage Site - where everywhere you looked, there was something to photograph. It's been wonderful - but emotionally exhausting!

The other thing was - I've just finished reading a great book lent to me by a friend called Dissolution by C J Sansom. It's a detective thriller, but set in a monastery in the 1530s when Henry VIII's plan for complete dissolution was in full swing. So that made the ruins of what was obviously once an enormous and magnificent building seem all the more poignant.

One way or another, going back to work tomorrow is going to be a bit of an anticlimax ..............................
