Happy 150 Birthday

The National Wallace Monument is 150 years old this year. Trust the Victorians!

It's a distinctive landmark perched high on the Abbey Craig. It overlooks the site of Wallace's victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297. The celebration of war aside you get a great view from the top of the monument across the flat lands of Forth Valley. It's not all Braveheart thank goodness.

An early walk this morning in properly misty autumnal weather. It was quite spooky round the castle where I met a holidaymaker who had 15 minutes before his coach left for the castle to appear from the mist. I think he might have been lucky as the sun got to work pretty quickly. I hope he got his photograph.

Later on today I'm going to Glasgow to take part in the Maggie's Culture Crawl. This is an evening/night walk round various Glasgow historical and cultural landmarks in aid of Maggie's Centres. A small team has been organised by a friend who unfortunately had occasion to use Maggie's services three or so years ago. It's a six mile walk ending at the Huntarian Museum. I'll take my camera but I'm not particularly good at nighttime photography. If I strike lucky I might add an extra tomorrow but as I won't be home till midnight I'll be too late for blipping tonight. Flora is going for a sleepover so she won't be left alone for hours.
