ice on wheels..

..as opposed to ice under wheels that you northern hemispherians have been encountering.

Our local bottle-o was preparing for the great ice stock up for Australia Day when eskies will be stuffed with the cold stuff and bottles.
Along with sausages it is apparently one of the biggest day for snag and ice producers.
Aussies like an icy brew,so regardless of where you may be able to buy a cold drink, the bottleshop, deli, bakers, supermarkets, fuel stops and even newsagents, there is a glass fronted fridge stocked with water and soft drinks ( and in summer, chocolate bars.)

My elder son lives on an island in the Gulf of Carpentaria,( as some of you blip followers may know from previous blips), and there they have huge ice machines equipped with giant scoops. Rock up with the eskies and there is a choice of cubed ice (for the bottles and the fishing trips) and crushed ice (for the mojitos and the like.)
No longer the hassle of the unfilled ice tray lurking in the freezer!

I remember a trip back to the UK and on an expedition to Whitby on a very warm day, I was looking for an icy soft drink. When asking in a sort of deli if they had any cold drinks, she looked at me and said 'Well they haven't been in the window'.
