Ardwall Island

Today's the day ……………………… to walk across

After all the excitement of the weekend, today was spent quietly at home.  We did manage a walk on the beach this morning - which was just as well, because by the afternoon, we were experiencing one of the promised thunderstorms with down-pourings of heavy rain.

This is the view looking across to Ardwall Island, one of the three Islands of Fleet, just off the coast southwest of Gatehouse-of-Fleet.  The other two are the Murray Isles, owned by the National Trust for Scotland and further south, Barlocco Isle.  You can walk across to Ardwall Island which has the remains of a chapel, dating from around 700 AD, built on the site of an earlier wooden building.  A hall house was built on the same site c1250-1350 and then a tower c1780-1800.

PS Thank you all so much for your enthusiastic response yesterday to my 10-year blip.  I was fair chuffed ………..!
