Embalse de Guadalhorce

Worth viewing grande

We decided not to drive too far today and spent the day exploring further some of the places we passed through earlier in the trip. The morning was spent at Alora, a very Spanish town which had quite a hustle and bustle about it. I could see myself spending more time here just taking photographs of people on the street. There were some wonderful faces to be seen, etched deep by a life in the sun. There is very little English spoken so I was certainly grateful to have TJ with me, her Spanish from childhood years in Menorca quite quickly returning to her. I took a couple of street photos which I could easily have blipped, of a woman struggling up the hill from the old part of the town, and of three rather cool young men sitting in front of a completely irresistible church door.

Much as I like both those shots, the day was really about doing some more walking and exploring the area around the reservoir of Guadalhorce, the large body of water that could be seen in yesterday's blip from the Pico de Huma. There wasn't too much scope in the way of trails but the one obvious walk was interesting enough and afforded some spectacular views of the reservoir as well as great views back to where we had been walking the previous day.

After coffee at a lovely little restaurant above the water we explored the shoreline for a short while so that TJ could dip her toes in the water. It was then a drive to Antequera for dinner - although as we've often found it wasn't easy to find an appropriate restaurant, or any kind of restaurant at all for that matter. We ended up at the Bullring which had previously been recommended. The food was fabulous but we were the only people dining. We had expected it to start filling up as the meal progressed but when we eventually left not a soul had walked through the doors. It was a little odd to have an entire restaurant to ourselves, but great to have such a highly personal service!
