midwife crisis

By lulubelle

Stayed in a campsite last night near Lake Gunn, it was founded by one of the very early European pioneers, who forged himself a farmstead, cattle and sheep station and then introduced 'make do without' tourism - first hiking to huts and then and 10 day horse riding treks into the outback. He drowned on Xmas day 1955 and his son took over the business, only recently retiring at 80 yrs old. The place is eccentric, fun and set up beautifully. We had the very best hot showers from the old wood-fired boiler.
The weather turned yesterday and it was thick cloud and drizzle again. We all decided not to venture further down south to the wet region and instead did our longest drive yet of about 8 hours across country, heading towards Mount Cook. I slept most of it and managed some supper...things is on the mend.
The weather improved as we moved inland.
