Smithsonian Kite Festival

The National Mall was wall-to-wall people and kites in celebration of the Blossom Kite Festival 2013! Though the cherry blossoms were just barely starting to appear (it should have been a cherry bud festival) the weather turned gloriously sunny. I was afraid of getting burned!

The winds were mostly sufficient to launch all manner of kites into the capitol's sky- from cheap plastic triangles, to elegant pirate ships and dragons. There were even a few box kites! It was wonderful chaos as children (and parents) learned to control their floating wonders or maybe just enjoyed a beautiful spring day.
