Enclosure Rites

We were orienteering high above the Vale of Pickering today in the woodlands of Scardale and Knapton. As we crossed from one wood to the other, we ran down an ancient dyke. Depending on how focused the individual orienteer was on his/her course the art installation on the brow of the hill was either glimpsed or missed.

Tony and I walked back up to the artwork after finishing our runs. It is called 'Enclosure Rites' and is intended as a viewpoint and a resting place. The artwork reflects local archaeology and consists of the Riven Posts and Guardian Warriors (see my other blips here).. There is also a dew pond which reinstates old farming practice and acts as a reflective pool. Between the Riven Posts wild flowers have been planted.

Today it was a little hazy over the vale but on a clear day it will indeed be a place to pause awhile and admire the view. Looks better in large.
