Life's Little Moments

Oh My!

Usually the chickadees are very polite little birds, darting in to grab a seed and right back out again.  This time of year when they are in small feeding flocks, there seems to be a definite "pecking order" amongst individuals and each waits for their turn.  Except when someone decides to jump the line.  I don't think I've ever gotten a photo of a chickadee being this aggressive - usually they just puff up for a minute.  It makes for a fun blip today.  As I write this, there is a line of 'dees at the birdbath.  Lots of splashing going on, taking advantage of fresh water and warm temps.

Second fave photo today is the Titmouse in Extra - super cute.

We have had scattered showers today but the temps are around 70 so it is very pleasant out.  I managed to get Jax out for a nice walk up and down the lane between showers - he was a perfect gentleman.  Our neighbor's across the street just put a basket ball hoop in their driveway and Jax has decided that it represents a serious threat which requires him to stand at our front door in full hackles, growling and barking.  Strangely, when we walked by it in the street, he seemed unfazed.  When we got home and he looked out the front door - suddenly it was as if we were under attack.  Silly dog.

There have reports of pine siskins in our area so I'm keeping watch out at the feeders.  In the meantime, we had both kinglets (ruby crowned and golden crowned) as well as yellow-rumped warblers in the yard today.  Because it is so warm, they seemed to be getting a lot of bugs in the trees and bushes around the deck.  Win-win.

I think dark with mint today.
