Blip Star

This may change after some sort of blipmob thingy possibly planned for today by StevieFish...

Since this guy has been blipped by so many people, I might as well add to his following. I've seen him quite often, and in the original size of this pic the fun of the unicycle contrasts beautifully with the sullen faces on the people walking to work on the other side of the road.

There will, naturally, be those who see this as mightily dangerous. It would be interesting to know unicycle injury stats, but something I've posited before is the 'difference' effect, which also applies to things like recumbents. They stand out simply because they're different. Normal cyclists fade into the background - but the reason this guy has been blipped so often is because we 'spotted' him out of the crowd. Drivers react in the same way. Whether he's a source of amusement, or simply a question mark as to how to get past him and how safe it is to be close, the time and space he was being afforded was somewhat more uself than that given to his two-wheeled brethren.

I've not had a chance yet to hand him a card for my cycling website, nor to tell him about his fame on Blip, but I may, one day next week, stake out his route.

Anyway, thank Crunchie it's Friday. Having to build up a wall of justification and back-covering for something I need to speak to the boss about (it's something that dates back to two years before I even joined, but such is the blame culture that the steps are necessary) so a bit of a stressed feel in the morning. But the news that he's likely not in most of next week AND that the weekend is going to be good weather-wise AND that it's Mel's birthday on Sunday AND that I'm taking part in a folding bike race in the Grassmarket tomorrow as part of a bigger event all really adds up to things starting to brighten.

Yesterday backblipped.
