Picnic

A nice bright sunny day today - good news? Well you'd think so, but the dull weather of the last few days had given me the false impression that the eye was healing and becoming less susceptible to light. I'm sure it is healing, but today was a reminder that it doesn't like bright light yet.

A slow drive down to Clachtoll searching for the Twite that Jean had seen around the campsite, but no sign of them or of Robert & Jean & Buachaille who had packed up and were now heading home. There were however a flock of around eight Whimbrel feeding close by. Check out RCB for his Whimbrel blip.

We then headed north to Kylesku where we enjoyed a picnic overlooking Loch a' Chairn Bhain watching rafts of Razorbills. Not entirely sure what they were up to. They seemed to be pairing up, but at this time of year I'd expect breeding birds to be on their cliff nest sites. Perhaps these were non-breeders practicing for next year.

We ended up at Badnabay via the Tarbet loop. A disappointing few birds on the roadside lochans although Badnabay produced its usual good variety including Common Sandpiper and Greenshank. A meal at Lochinver Larder and a view of the Iceland Gull by Lochan Sgeireach finished off the day.
