Fall

We went out to Harlaw for a mooch around the reservoir which is in the foothills of the Pentlands; there were a few butterflies and lots of little flitting birds in the woods who were very tricky to blip. I did get a reasonable portrait of a chaffinch who was preoccupied with a macho singing contest, but in the end I went with more sparkles.

This is where the water exits the Harlaw reservoir in a controlled fashion to be fed in to the Water of Leith. Originally it was meant to keep up the flow rate even when water levels were low, in order to supply the many water mills that operated between Balerno and Leith. Now I suspect it has more use as flood prevention.
