THERE'S ONLY ONE STEVIE HARPER

Neil and I went to the match this afternoon. Newcastle United were beaten by Arsenal by one goal to Nil. Good job we were safe from relegation without needing to win this match.

My blip today shows Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper and his 3 children - they were mascots today. It was Steve's last game for Newcastle and as he wears number 37 there was a minute's applause for him on the 37th minute of the game. This match was his 199th appearance for Newcastle - he signed as an 18 year old in 1993. He was also Captain of the team today.

After the final whistle the Manager, the whole team, players who hadn't played today and various children did a parade around the ground to acknowledge the support of the crowd. There was a great atmosphere even though we lost this game and really had a poor season in the Premiership. Hopefully some good players will be signed in the summer and the team will be raring to go in August.

My daughter and son in law were also at a football match today. They went to Wembley to support Brentford - who played Torquay in a the League One play off Final. Becky works in Brentford and it was a chance to go to Wembley to see the team play. Unfortunately Brentford lost the match.

The weather while I was at the football was lovely - a good opportunity to top up my Vitamin D in the warm sunshine.
