Food at last!

Having been away since Friday, the birds at my place haven't been fed (by me) in 4 days.

When I filled the feeder and put out apples this evening the sparrows and waxeyes converged. The waxeyes usually arrive in pairs, but then one won't let the other eat until it has finished. I have no idea which is the male and which the female so I don't know what the protocol is here.

It was really too dark for taking photos (especially through my windows) but I haven't taken anything else today so rather than muck about setting up something inside, this is it!
