Technology for the Elderly

His Lordship and I, as long time bus pass carrying citizens, hearken back to the day when a television could be switched on with a button on the set. No matter that it took a few minutes to warm up while you looked at some young girl on the screen with a knots and crosses board behind her; no matter that the number of channels was severely limited, at least the thing worked simply at the touch of a single button without increasing our blood pressure.

Nowadays with high technology, we have a sound system with a television able to access hundreds of channels by Satellite and Freeview, a DVD player able to play Blue Ray DVD's, but the whole shebang sporting four remote controls.

Knowing that the ability to cope with these would be quite beyond us, the installers three years ago, gave us a single console which would do all the giggery pockery for us without recourse to these 4 remote controls.

So far so good, until this thing goes on the blink as it did last night and the only access to the television is via the remote controls. Son#2 on his last visit wrote down the order in which I have to use these controls to turn things on. The problem was it didn't work. HL more of an artist than technician but with the innate male ability to push buttons, managed to kick start the BBC Channel's but no other.
The big Guru installer is visiting today. It will cost.

On a happier note, this is the birthday of my first born, and quite a day in both our lives it was all those years ago. Happy birthday, Sally!
