Diary of an Edinburgher

Even better!

We popped round to the new house this morning to measure up, find out about the boiler etc. And it’s even better than we remembered! Can’t wait to get in and get it organised. The young couple are quite lucky in that they can move to a relative’s house till they find a place. And they have parents around to help with childcare. I really wonder how people with young kids and no parental help nearby manage.

They have a feature strip of wallpaper with large black and white thistles in the kitchen that we had intended removing and putting our big painting there. Their faces fell as they spotted us measuring up to see if our painting would fit. Apparently it was £300 a roll, hand printed, and they were going to steam it off and take it with them if we didn’t want it. We backtracked quickly and said, no, we’ll keep it, it’s lovely. Which it is. The big painting will have to go in another room...

Had a prompt reply email from the cinema folk, apologising for the mix up yesterday. I didn’t want staff to get into trouble, as they did search and search for the correct barcode to allow us in. Two free tickets are winging their way to us to compensate for the inconvenience.

Had a fiddle with a new toy - Topaz Remask. Dcred mentioned it yesterday, and I had a look and it’s brilliant. SO much easier than Photoshop for cutting out! Thanks, Dcred. I used it today to cut out the cupcakes, but need a lot more practise!

Watched the Great British Year - what a wonderful programme. This is what humungous TV screens are for. Brilliant time lapse photography, and amazing wild life shots - apparently with lots of contributions from amateur photographers all over the country. It’s on iPlayer.

Apart from the excitement of seeing the new house again, the other excitement today was a new baking bowl to lick and new muffins/cupcakes to eat. Except for the bake-off ones. These are not really cupcakes, they're small hummingbird cakes - pineapple, banana and walnuts. With dried pineapple sliced flowers on top.

I don’t know how I will fit that roast in...

But I will.
