Dala Horses

The Dala Horse is a traditional carved and painted wooden horse statuette originating in Dalarna in Sweden, and it has become the symbol of Dalarna and of Sweden in general.

Several different types of Dala horses are made, with distinguishing features common to the locality where they are produced. However, the one which has become more common than others is stoutly carved and painted bright red with details in white, green, yellow and blue.

I have three Dala Horses, and these are my two smallest. The largest of these I have had since I was fourteen years old, and the other for almost as long.

Today was a beautiful day, and we were out and about most of the day, in Glasgow in the morning and food shopping in the afternoon.
