Family life

Living next to a river there is no shortage of potential Swan blippage and I've taken lots of shots of Swans in the past. The problem is usually that when I look at them later I just think "Oh yeah, so it's a Swan". Lovely birds to look at but hard to get right with a photo.

I've snapped this swan before though. Back then she was in the middle of the old Curling Pond and here is what all the fuss was about. The two of them rarely leave the old pond it seems. It's unusual however for a Swan to have just one egg and so the others may have been nabbed by Water Rats, Foxes or even Mink.

Or, as has happened along this stretch of river in the past, they've been adopted by another couple.

A short distance away there's a family group with eight cygnets some of which could have originally belonged to the Old Curling Pond creche.

Regardless, I'd say the hormones are still raging for Mummy Swan judging by that fine military style mustache she's sporting these days.
