Up Helly Aa 2014

What a day!  Seriously windy again and some down pour of rain in the morning and throughout the day but eased a bit in the evening.

Up Helly Aa day finally has arrived and what a busy day I've had in the museum.  Over 1000 visitors in the museum today and a visit from the Guizer Jarl Ivor Cluness and his Viking squad.  We also had a visit from Neil Oliver again today :)  
After my busy day, I went to Lerwick with niece Elise to watch the Up Helly Aa procession.  A bit windy and cold but the rain stayed off for most of it.  Quiet night for me but hope everyone enjoys the night ahead, it finishes about 9am tomorrow morning!

This is the galley head burning.  A lot of planning and work goes into making this beautiful galley just to burn it!  With over 1000 men with torches on fire, they throw them into the galley to end the procession.  Taken on King Harald Street, Lerwick.
