Banana flower

Growing in our neighbours yard, this banana plant, hanging over the fence into our property, beautifully display a bunch of green bananas (not in the image, and this flower - aptly described below:

'In addition to the fruit, the flower of the banana plant (also known as banana blossom or banana heart) is used in Southeast Asian, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, and Kerala (India) cuisine, either served raw or steamed with dips or cooked in soups and curries.

Banana flowers are somewhat similar in taste to artichokes and can be eaten in much the same way where one scrapes off the fleshy part of the petals and eats the whole of the heart.'

Although we no longer stay in Pretoria, from where this image originates, our son James and his family now occupy the family home, where he and his siblings grew up.

Despite the fact that we stayed there for 29 years, the garden never looked as well groomed as now, under the care of James who obviously has green fingers and a way with the plants who willingly oblige to put up their best performance.

Thank you, James! You do the garden proud!
