Propaganda

Although it has strong negative connotations now, as something distinct from 'facts' or 'information' or 'advertising', I grew up with propaganda as a positive and necessary aspect of politics. Something that would make a statement, encourage or rouse people, often in seriously artistic or funny ways. It also makes great social history. If you're interested in Russian history, you can trace the political agitation, revolution, (peaking with Lissitzky's Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge) and its subsequent degeneration through the posters. You can appreciate a good bit of propaganda, although it maybe takes a little longer to appreciate propaganda with a message you don't like.

Anyway, this is one of Stewart Bremner's Yes posters for the referendum. He seems to have produced hundreds of different posters but (I think) this is the only one that's a real live high quality print. If you ask nicely he might let you snap one up before they're all gone. There may not be much else good looking to remember this period by.
