BOGOF Butterflies

'Blip One Get One Free'!

There were loads and loads of butterflies on the buddleias today - mostly tortoiseshells and peacocks, but I think I spotted one red admiral. These two are happily sharing a flower. I was pleased with the patterns on their wings created by shadows in the strong sunlight.

Isn't it mind-boggling to realise there is no pigment in butterflies' wings; their colour is wholly created by refraction of light caused by the structure of their wings.

Apologies for not leaving many comments at the moment. I'm trying to avoid sitting too long at a time - in fact, trying to sit less altogether - pro bono my sciatica and the painful knee on the other leg. So please forgive Hop-Along-PP. I hope to catch up anon.
