Las Palmas old town

A minor disaster has struck! This is the only surviving photo out of 300-odd taken yesterday and today. I accidentally deleted the rest from the memory card on the camera. It's a shame, especially the others from today, which saw me spend several pleasant hours wandering around the old town in Las Palmas and clicking like mad. This lone survivor gives only a poor idea of the photographic delights in this area.

We got the bus up to the city yesterday (less than €6!) and stayed overnight in Hotel Parque on Parque San Telmo. A dreadful evening meal was included as part of our half-board deal, which was a sad disappointment after the fabulous cocktail session we'd had earlier in La Azotea de Benito, near the opera house. That had followed a wander down Calle Triana, the main shopping street, and a wonderful few plates of tapas in Cañas y Tapas on Calle Torres.

After time today around the old town we had lunch in the Gabineto Literario on Plaza Cairasco, picked up our bag from the hotel and got a bus up to Parque de Santa Catalina and on to the beach area. After food and drink (finishing in a great little old-fashioned bar frequented by lots of locals), we got the midnight bus back to Playa del Inglés. Two great days, with a change of pace and scene. We were delighted we'd gone up to Las Palmas.
