Desperately seeking

Hyacinth

For the first time I bought hyacinths as cut flowers. In the past I have done the usual thing involving the airing cupboard, a bowl, some compost and three bulbs. When the girls were young I've done the other thing, the one involving tall, clear vases which hold bulbs in the top so we could watch the roots grow.

Whatever the method, the result is the same: a room full of sweet fragrance! Is it my imagination, or did hyacinths used to smell stronger or do blue ones smell sweeter than white ones?
