It is a ...............

........ Momentous Monday in the BikerBear household tomorrow.

Himself is taking (very) early retirement and tomorrow is his last working day.

46 years and 3 months since leaving school – not a single day unemployed in all that time and only three jobs – an apprentice motor mechanic (2 yrs), the British Army (22 yrs and a bit) and an HGV Fitter (22 yrs and a bit) …… not a bad record at all in my opinion.

The Positives:

More time at home

More time together

More time to do things round the house

More time for holidays and trips away

More time to do all the things he said he didn’t have time for before!

The Negatives:

More time under my feet at home (oh, that was a positive)!

More time interfering with my computer/ blip time together (oh, that was a positive too)!

More time to just think about things to do round the house and then putting them off!

More time for holidays and trips away - except we won’t have quite the money to do them as he doesn’t get his pension for another three years

All the things he didn’t have time for before, he probably didn’t really want to do anyway now he CAN do them!

Seriously, adjustments are going to be needed on both sides (and I am REALLY going to look forward to getting away on my “missions” now – lol) but they are exciting times for both of us.

I will not have to get up at 06.00 every day to make sandwiches for his lunch as I have done for the past 22 years! Oh and I will never have to buy another yoghurt to go in that sandwich box again – just walking past them in the supermarket yesterday was BLISS!

He won’t have to go out in the dark and come home in the dark, in the wintertime, with only work in between.

No more dirty fingernails and he can now wear his wedding ring every day

No more “work clothes”

No more bosses wanting him to keep to schedules that are impossible without two, or even three, pairs of hands

Yep, a momentous day alright – but if I suddenly disappear from blip would someone please pop by the house and see if we have a new 6’ by 3’ patio in the back garden …… he may well have buried me there – if I don’t get to him first!!!!!!!

:-))

Oh, and it’s just a little feather – I liked the way it looked on the mulch, in a tiny patch of sunlight with the little splashes of colour close by.

Much, much more detail large ....
(or should that be mulch, mulch more???)

Thought for the day:

A retired husband is often a wife’s full time job
