Brave Heart

Bleeding nipples, tortured faces,Personal best times and Emergency Care was the order of the day. Today MrsPuff and I traveled with Mark from the Harrier Club to see the finish of the Dunedin Marathon and 1/2 Marathon. Dunedin is the Edinburgh of the South and this chap was competing with a team all kitted out in Tartan and Kilt in the 1/2 marathon walk (13 miles/21.1 km) and he is pro independence. We watched men come running past with bleeding nipples runners with tortured faces all in the name of reaching a personal goal, completing their first or their 10th Marathon one lady from Auckland has run 4 marathons in the last week. One woman runner was so run down with 800m to go that we gave her some emergency care until the First aid team got to us. The lady was seriously ill she was tachycardic and not from the run, exhausted and Hypoglycemic,we helped her off the course where she colapsed a couple of times but was determined to finish the race we helped her right to the finish line where a friend of hers helped her cross it. Some people would look at this in despair and call it stupidity and many other names but such is the determination to finish a race and exceed or push the bodies endurance.
