We Was Getting Nowhere...

... and so we had a cuppa tea!

And just to prove it, I've used this jaunty angle to get my cup into the shot!

Oh, dear! Trouble with the boat starter again! We got set off but found that wasn’t to have been the worst problem of the day. At 11.45am, just as we were about to enter Kilby lock, our gear box failed. When The Fellas had a look down in the engine compartment they saw that we had a broken gear rod.

Thank goodness the boat has a rescue insurance. Fortunately, we keep a canal map open in front of us and know exactly whereabouts we are at any given time. Unlike the AA or the RAC, the engineer can’t just drive up alongside us. He has to walk along the towpath, with his toolkit, from the nearest bridge. Then he has to go back to his car again when he realises the spare part he brought along, isn’t the right one.

Anyhow, he worked from 1.15pm to 2.15pm and got the job sorted, well at least he found that he did, once he had made the starter work! The worry about delays like this is that we MUST get back to the marina to vacate the boat for the start of someone else's holiday. The journey is planned very carefully.

I wondered what else could go wrong!
