Money tree

While walking up Dove Dale in the Peak District we found 14 felled tree trunks covered with coins. It must have been very difficult to hammer each coin in the trunk but perhaps they were regarded as a type of wish tree. According to superstition as the coin was hammered into the wood a wish for improved health would be made but if someone pulled the coin out the illness would pass to the thief. Judging by the amount of coins there must have been many wishes made but probably not all made for health reasons.
