"You see, but you do not observe"

This morning, the Minx and I popped out into Kirkby Lonsdale. I'd seen a jumper I fancied in a shop window and I wanted to see what she thought. In the end, though, after a browse 'round, we bought a different jumper plus a couple of handkerchiefs, and headed back to the cottage.

As were walking past the garden to the gate, she pointed out this rose. I think I could have walked past it a hundred times without noticing it but there it was, this beautiful flower, looking for all the world like spring, in the middle of my autumnal garden.

(The quote is from Sherlock Holmes, taken from 'A Scandal in Bohemia'.)
