Still open for business

Since it's been quite dry for while, the kids only need an extra layer and they can be let loose in the garden to play. Mandy took the opportunity of a bit of sunshine the other day to give the grass a quick trim so at least the toys (and more importantly, the apples) don't get lost.

The other side of the garden, the one with the apple tree, is a bit of a hazard - there's apples regularly dropping and since the tree's about 40 feet high, they've picked up a fair bit of speed by the time they reach the ground. If they hit the path or the sleepers around the beds, they often explode quite spectacularly. I hate to think what they'd do landing on your head. Which might explain why I haven't seen Ewan on the rope swing that hangs from one of the big branches. It does tend to shoogle the tree, provoking an apple hail storm.

It's the second instalment of Ewan's birthday this afternoon. He's going to the cinema with some pals and then coming back for pizza and cake. I'm staying here to keep Ellen amused and to make the dough and topping for the pizza.
