Today's the day ...................... to go to a meeting

Had to go to a meeting today which involved walking along beside the River Kent to the other side of Kendal. The river was still very high with all the rainwater coming off the hills. It was still raining but it was far too windy for an umbrella to last more than a few minutes before it blew itself inside out. So not the weather to be hanging about in.

It took me a while to realise that all along the railings, there were labels which had been attached with ribbons. Each one gave a name and said on the back - so and so died at work today. They were all pictures of soldiers so I assume they were all casualties of war.

It was a very moving sight because there seemed to be hundreds of them - all fluttering on the railings on this wild and stormy day ..........
