Family Goosander

Today's the day ....................... to get in the slipstream

Wild, wet and very windy in Kendal today with lots of water flowing down the River Kent through the town. I've shown these goosanders before when I thought there were only two. Now I know there's a whole family of them with several young brothers and sisters from this year's brood.

It was hard going to swim across the current to get into the slipstream of a little rocky island - then they just got into formation one behind the other to save on energy.

I feel that we are really lucky to be able to see these beautiful birds at close quarters on a daily basis. They have such an exotic shape of head and lovely plumage and they seem to be completely at home on the River Kent. Let's hope they decide to stay .............
