Today's the day .................... to taste whisky

The Kendal Mountain Film Festival is on at the moment and the town is full of adrenaline junkies of all kinds. As the brochures say - we can expect four packed days of the very best films, speakers, books and exhibitions covering all aspects of mountain and adventure sports culture.

One of the main sponsors this year is Bowmore Scotch Whisky and they have a big stand where you can go and taste samples of their Islay single malts. Great, you say! The only thing is - I have never liked the stuff and would never drink it if given a choice.

However - now that I have been instructed in the finer points of malt whisky drinking by the nice man on the right of the picture - I am beginning to think that perhaps there is something to this 'malt' lark. It involves eating some chocolate-covered raisins first and then drinking in a certain way.

I'm afraid that's about all I can tell you because the rest is a closely guarded secret ...........!
