Today's the day ...................... to fill the feeders

The bird feeders in the garden have been empty for several days but today I filled them all up and added some juicy fat balls. It only took half an hour or so and there were bluetits, coaltits and great tits everywhere. How do they know? Does bird food smell or something?!

Took this picture of a bluetit near the feeders in the middle of the Viburnum x bodnantense 'Dawn' which most definitely does smell. Every garden should have one of these - it's the most amazing shrub. There are few outdoor plants that flower from autumn through to spring. It can reach 3m (10ft) in height and has small clusters of heavily scented flowers that fade from pink to white.

On this grey, bleak late-autumn day - it almost looks as if it's spring ..........
