Dr. J's Day

Lyon - day 2

There was a wonderful bakery around the corner and we had yet another wonderful breakfast with croissants and espresso. Walked around for a bit, then found a great chocolatier/patissier called 'Le Pastel Perroudon'. After drooling over every piece of chocolate and pastry there, we finally settled on the strawberry tart and had another coffee.

We then went to see the Gallo-Roman Amphitheater & la Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere. Afterwards we had another coffee before heading off to vieux Lyon and walked along la Rue de la Republique & la Rue Merciere.

We had lunch at le Piazza Papa - and realized that it seemed sort of like a chain and probably wasn't the best choice for lunch. But it was tasty. Went to la Place Bellecour afterwards, then had yet some more gelato. I had the pate d'amande and violette, and Jer had the amarena and caramel sale with chocolate.

All that eating and walking tired us out, so we took our usual afternoon nap. After our nap, we headed to la Rue du Boeuf. Dinner was at 'le Palais Saint Jean' and we decided to indulge in a big meat-fest. Started off with a salumi plate and head cheese, and a salad Lyonnaise. We then had steak for dinner. It's been a long time since we've had any meat and that meal put me into a serious food coma. I had to promptly go home afterwards because I could barely stay awake. An hour after my nap we walked around and got more gelato. Jer had the muscat & white chocolate and I got the cerise griotte and citron-basilique. That was the first time I had to throw gelato away - that was some of the most sour stuff I had ever had and a shame that it went to waste.
