Dr. J's Day

Paris to Lyon

Slept in this morning - probably shouldn't have, but all that walking probably tired us out. We had another wonderful espresso/croissant breakfast and a proceeded to buy half of the bakery - sandwiches for the train ride or a snack, and meringues.

We decided to bring our stuff to the train station before our trip to Leon at 3 pm. Couldn't find the right way to get to the train station, dragged our luggage around (which wasn't too bad because we managed to pack only carry on luggage for our trip), got frustrated so we ended up taking a cab to the Gare de Lyon.

So....we had our tickets, but they were no good anymore since there was a rail strike that day. We ended up staying around the station to try to get on the next train to Lyon. Had a wonderful lunch at L'Europeen - I had a glass of wine and a croque madame and Jer had a beer and brie sandwich. Missed out on going to L'Arc to Triomphe and Champs Elysees, but I'm sure we'll be back soon.

Our train ride was wonderful, but it was POURING when we got to Lyon. Got a cab to our hotel - Hotel Ste Paul. After buying an umbrella, we went to get gelato at Nardonnes - on a recommendation from our friends M&P who used to live in Lyon. I had the pistachio & fleur d'orange and Jer got ananas & mandarin. Wonderful gelato and espresso. After our afternoon nap, we went next door and had dinner. Started off with a nice bottle of Cote du Rhone and escargots. Then we had salads (Lyonnaise & a lentil/offal salad), Jer had the sausages with scalloped potatoes and I had the skate wing and potatoes. I discovered that I don't like skate wing - it's a gummy, sticky mess. Finished off dinner with profiteroles, tarte tatin and espresso.

It never stopped raining all day, but didn't stop us. Great day, yet again.
